Earth Hour is an annual environmental campaign that brings attention to the effects of climate change by switching off lights at homes and businesses for an hour at 8.30 pm (20:30). As part of our commitment to the global advocacy, CBMP participated the Earth Hour 2021 thru turning off of lights in Bldg A & Perimeter Area. For this one-hour activity, we are able to turn off 215 FL bulb, 354 LED bulb, 6 Perimeter HPS and 4 Perimeter LED and able to save 15.14 Kwh. This activity gives us a savings of 15.14 Kwh equivalent to Php 78.90.
Aside from in the in-site Earth Hour, CBMP is raising the awareness of the employees regarding the issues facing our planet and encouraged its employees to participate the annual activity by turning off of lights in each household. It was participated by 139 CBMP employees and posted their photos in social media account with hashtag #CBMPEarthHour2021. In CBMP, we believe that Earth Hour is more than just an hour for the planet – It’s a movement for our future.

One of the environmental issues the world facing today is Wildfire. Due to global warming, warmer temperatures increase the likelihood that fires will burn more intensely. Parched grass or fallen leaves often fuel surface fires. Aside from the damage of our landforms, it has great effect on the Earth’s atmosphere and climate change.
To prevent this to happen, and as part of Fire Prevention Month Celebration, CBMP extends its helping hand to Makiling Botanic Gardens to facilitate a Forest Clean Up Drive. This aims to preserve and maintain the good condition of the forest by sweeping off the fallen leaves. The activity was held last March 19, 2021 by 12 CBMP Volunteers and able to sweep leaves approximately 20 kgs.

Note: During the conduct of the activity volunteers observe government and company health protocols against COVID 19.

Molawin River or also known as Molawin Creek, is a minor tributary of Laguna Lake that can be found at the town of Los Baños in Laguna Province. The lake is the largest lake in the Philippines and one of the primary sources of freshwater fish in the country. Its water drains to Manila Bay via the Pasig River. At least 18 fish species are known from Laguna de Bay; none are strictly endemic to the lake, but 3 are endemic to the Philippines: Gobiopterus lacustris, Leiopotherapon plumbeus and Zenarchopterus philippinus. Aquaculture is widespread in Laguna de Bay, but often involves non-native species. Some of these have escaped and have become invasive species, representing a threat to the native fish.
Canon Business Machines (Philippines), Inc. initiated to clean the Molawin Creek to maintain and preserve the aquaculture in Laguna de Bay last February 27, 2021 at Makiling Botanic Gardens. 10 Selected CBMP Volunteers from different departments in partnership with Makiling Center for Mountain Ecosystems, they were able to collect approximately 10 kgs of plastic waste found around the Molawin Creek.

Note: During the conduct of the activity volunteers observe government and company health protocols against COVID 19.

Kapa-Kapa, or also known as Medinilla Magnifica, is a native plant that can be only found in the Philippines. It is commonly known as the Philippine Orchid, an epiphyte which means it grows on another plant but not parasitic and will not harm the trees they are on.
Kapa-Kapa is a pride of the Philippines, it is even featured in 10-Philippine Pesos Coin. It is being cultivated in Makiling Botanic Garden, one of the partners of Canon Business Machines (Philippines), Inc. where several environmental activites are held, at Los Banos, Laguna. The featured Kapa-Kapa photo was captured by Canon EOS 7000.

The objective of our activity, Flower Planting, is to restore the biodiversity in CBMP surroundings that will give our employees good working environment, refreshing scenery and clean air.
With this we continue our improvement activity, we planted again “Yellow bell” for the second time in CBMP. Year 2018 Wave 1 (Phase 1: trail phase) of Flower planting in CBMP plant bed was successful.

This activity was done on November 3, 2020 at Makiling Botanic Garden at UP Los Baños together with the selected ISO 14001 Coordinators. Sweeping of fallen leaves and twigs in the trail ways were the main activities in order to clean up the forest. Approximately 200kgs of leaves and twigs.

Note: Due to government restriction related to COVID 19 prevention, Only few selected members were allowed to join the activity following the rule of Community Quarantine such as "NO mass gathering".

Natural resources such as trees, river and creek must be properly preserved. Creek is one of the bodies of water found in the Botanical garden. It serves as natural stream of water to the plants and trees around the garden. Cleaning Up of creek is one of the help that CBMP may give to protect the natural resources. The objective of the activity is to avoid water contamination and improve quality of water.
This activity was done on November 3, 2020 at Makiling Botanic Garden at UP Los Baños together with the selected ISO 14001 Coordinators.
